"Its design, by architect Santiago Calatrava, evokes a couple dancing the tango."
The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic launched 2,500 units of a commemorative coin that is part of a project involving Spain, Portugal, and several countries in the region. Its image shows the Puente de la Mujer.
The assigned value is 25 pesos, which today does not represent a significant amount, but it is a coin that represents the City of Buenos Aires and will feature on one side the Puente de la Mujer, a cable-stayed bridge with a cantilevered pylon designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava in the city of Buenos Aires.
The announcement was made at the BCRA within the framework of the 13th edition of the Ibero-American Series of commemorative coins, which this year focuses on Ibero-American capitals.
“The Ibero-American Series of commemorative coins arises from a joint initiative between Spain, Portugal, and several countries of the region, with the goal of strengthening ties and recognizing the cultural diversity of each nation, reflected in the designs of the coins,” the BCRA said in a statement.

The Puente de la Mujer
“Located at Dock 3 in Puerto Madero and inaugurated in 2001, the Puente de la Mujer has become one of the most significant landmarks of the city,” the institution said in a statement.
“The rotation of the bridge on its axis, which simulates the synchronized movement of tango dancers, allows large vessels to pass despite its 800 tons,” the BCRA explained.
